SWEDEN'S DEFENCE.
LOYALTY OF THE PEASANTRY. BEADY FOB SACRIFICES. STOCKHOLM, February 7. ■ Over 30,000 peaeants from all parts of Sweden yesterday went in procession to the Royal castle, and petitioned the King in favour of an immediate increase of armaments, declaring the peasantry's readiness for all the necessary sacrifices. The King, replying, said he was determined to insist on an early settlement of the defence question, and promised that the fleet should be increased. Thirty-two special trains brought the peasants to Stockholm. They attended the churches prior to marching with banMrs to the palace. Two hundred delegates, of whom ten came from each province, surrounded King GustaVs dais and affirmed their willingness to bear the burden of increased armaments. Thunders of applause greeted the Sing's reply. The demonstration is more noteworthy because until 1866 the peasants were a separate estate of the Jealm.
