WHARFMEN'S DEMANDS.
SHIP OWNERS TO RESIST THEM FIGHT ON NEW ZEALAND LINES. (Received 11.15 ajn.) MELBOURNE, thi a day. ;It ?s anticipated that a compulsory ♦onference to deal with the wharfmen's trouble will be summoned to-day. Ship owners arc credited with a desire' to fight the Labour Federation on the lines of the late New Zealand strike. They declare that » check must be put on the men's exorbitant demands, even though it may mean a great loss of money. They are determined to grant no increases excepting through the Arbitration Court. Xo settlement has been reached in the butchers' trouble. It is expected that the Ihopmen will strike to-day. The city is largely without meat.
