UNIONS STANDING FIRM.
The fifteen unions and the unattached groups of workers who are officially represented on the Central Strike Committee give hopeful reports of the wav in which their members are standing together. This morning the timber workers held a meeting and decided by 170 votes to 4 to adhere to the attitudethat had been maintained all through. Of the four dissentients, three expressed ■ their intention to abide loyally by the | wish of the majority, mid to wait until j united actiou was taken by the union. The :General 'Labourers' Union has not been able to trace one case where jury of its members has returned to work. It further reports that numbers of labourers who were not members of their union were standing by them, and were to all intents and purposes at one with the union so far as the strike was concerned.
The Jnembers of the Auckland Painters' X'nion at a largely-attended meeting this morning unanimously affirmed the stand that had been taken up in connection with the strike. It is estimated that abont twenty out of the total membership of 400 have gone back to work.
