RAILWAYMEITS HOURS MurrwruM wage wanted. (Received 10.20 a.m.) LONDON, June 0. The Raihvaymen's Union at Burton-on-Trent passed a resolution in favour of an eight-hour day and a minimum wage. Mr Bellamy (president of the union) declared that the National Union programme would stipulate for a general strike in order to compel non-unionists to join the union. UNIONISM IN AFRICA. GENERAL STRIKE THREATENED JOHANNESBURG, June 9. A strike of Kleinfontein miners for J recognition as a union threatens a general strike in South Africa. The trade unions have heen instructed to draw up their demands for submission to the employers before the declaration of a general strike. UNIONS AND CONTRACTS. (Received 9.1,> a.m.) BRISBANE, this day. The Cloncurry gold mines' smelters are idle owing to the refusal of the union to allow miners to enter into contract.
