John Amos, landlord of the Sun Inn at Bedlington, a.village of Northumberland, resisted an attempt to evict him from the inn. ' He barricaded the doors, and when the wife of his successor approached the building he shot her dead with a gun. j Two constables who attempted to arrest . the murderer were also shot dead. Amos then escaped before the inn could be surrounded. Strong armed parties are now out searching for him.
