GREY LYNN.

The Grey Lynn Borough Council met last night. I'rcsent: The Mayor (Mr G. Baildon), Councillors C. Norjrrove. H. Schofleld, .1. A. Warnock, F. Brlnsden, E. Carr, F. Tarsons, J. AY. Tattersfield, and W. Donald. Plumbers' Itegislration Act.—lt was decided to nominate Mr H. Munro Wilson to represent the Council on the Board under the Plumbers' Registration Act. Tax on Motor Vehicles.—The Town. Clerk, Woodville, forwarded a resolution to the effect that a special tax be imposed on motor cars and motor cycles, the proceeds to be allocated by a Board amongst the various local bodies. Mr Tattersfield moved that the matter be referred to the Finance Committee, which was agreed to. Oweu Street. —The Salvation Army asked to have the road made to their new institution iv Owen Street. Tlie matter was referred to the Streets Committee. Nightsoil Depot.—A deputation waited upon the Council to protest against the nightsoil bring further deposited at tlie old spot, Richmond. Mr Kichol was spokesman for the deputation, which represented 831 signatories. If there was to be no nuisance, he suggested the depot might fairly be placed in a more central position in Grey Lynn Park, lie advocated taking the nightsoil out of th,c borough altogether. Mr Tattersfield contended that the depot was perfectly sanitary. He asked the deputation to bear in mind that he was responsible for the Council securing the site of the present depot for nightsoil. He argued that the had no right to send into an out district what they would not deposit In Grey Lynn. That depot had saved the Tatepayers 11/ a service per annum, and they would have a property worth £1,500 at the end of IS months. The Mayor said he visited the depot yesterday, and could nssure the Council there was not the slightest nuisance. He considered what they had done was In the best Interests of the borough. On the motion of Mr Brlnsden lt was agreed that the Sanitation Committee meet members of the deputation on the ground. H.M.S. New Zealand.—The Council de- ! cided to donate £20 towards entertaining the men on the New Zealand.
