Mr John Rowe (Mayor) presided at the meeting of 'the Onehunga Borough Council held last -night, and all the members were present except Cra. McColl and Davis. Finance.—The cemetery fund was reported to be in credit £3,800, and there was a deficit in the general account amounting to £900. Accounts amounting to £000 were I passed for payment. It was decided to arrange with the National Bank for an overdraft of £2,000. To provide the necessary funds for the ensuing year, the Mayor gave notice to move, "T-at a general rate of 1/ ia the £ he levied on all ratable property in the borough; also a hospital and charitable aid rate of 2Jd in the £, a libray rate of Id in the £, a drainage rate (within the drainage area) of 1/6 in the>£, a water rate of. 3 per cent la the £ on properties exceeding a ratable value.of £12 10/ per annum, and under that amount a •minimum of 8/, non-consu—tens half-rates. Young £9 15/, W. Pritt £7 7/6, A. Major £7 2/6 (accepted). Buchan in Cardwell Street: W. Pritt £7 5/, A. Major £6 18/6. J. Young £5 19/ (accepted). Lease of Market Reserve: H. Bray and Co. £8 5/ (accepted). Footpaths.—The foreman of works re-; ported that the amount of tar*used this* year in asphalting the footpaths was 14,238' gallons, compared with 10.839 last year and 8,022 the previous year. Building Area.—On the motion of the Mayor, it was decided that a by-law/be passed making the minimum building area ( one-flfth of an acre dn the recently-acquired portion of the One-tree Hill district iow forming part of the Borough of Onehnnga. With regard to the rovataat—' off this portion of the borough, a letter wis received from the Department for Internal Affairs stating that the -proctorratios asked 'for in regard to the preparation/of the'

valuation list would receive immediate attention.. - ' Extra Polling Booths.—A petition received from- residents In the neighbourhood asking for a polling booth near the Seddou Memorial was referred to the Council in committee. To- Tax Motor Cars. —A letter was received from the Woodville Borough Council asking the Onehunga Borough Council to support the following suggestion, viz.:— |That the Government be asked to levy a tax on all motor cars and motor cycles, the same to be handed over to the local bodies and expended by them in maintaining nnd improving the roads, and that a special board -be set up to. allocate the money between the local bodies."—Referred to the Council in conimittee.,
