FLOODS ABATING.

The streets are again nearly clear of water, but many low-lying sections are still inundated. The condition of the interior of business establishments is indescribahlp. Rvery description of goods, shop cases, broken glass, and mirrors are mixed up in a ruined condition. This morning was bright with sunshine, and the strpet fronts were lined with goods put out to dry, but a large amount was only fit for Ihp rubbish heap.

Many families are almost destitute. There is a great scarcity of bread, only two bakers having yet beeu able to bake, but others hope to resume to-iuorrow. The schools remain closed this week in lieu of the midwinter holidays. 'Numerous narrow eeca-pes are recorded, but no loss of life. LA man named Cox. a local butcher, was with othpriH engaged in. rescue work, when a sar-t capsized, pinning Cux against a hedge, where he was kept over two boirre hi the water.
