RELIEF FOR CROWN SETTLERS
The powers conferred on Land Boards by amonidmen-ts in the Land Act last session for the postponement of rental payments with the approval of the Minister of Lands, apply to leases and licenses current on the coming into opera.tion of tbe Amending Act, as well ■as those granted in the future. The relief is intended for Crown settlers holding under Deferred Payment, Perpetual Lease, Occupation with Right of Purchase, Renewable Lease (ordinary), or Special Settlement Lease, who find themselves unable, through any natural disI aster or other sufficient cause, to pay t_ie rent due. Not more than one year's rent may be postponed at any one time, but the Act provides that further postponements may be made not exceeding three years in the aggregate. In the Auckland district the first recommendations under this beneficent provision were made at the November meeting of the Land Board, and further applications for relief were dealt with at yesterday's Board meeting. i
