SPEED OF PUMPS rNCHEASED. ' SIGNS OF FLOW DECREASING. > j The engineer of the Thames Drainage ' Board's pumps in the Queen of Beauty ' ' shaft, in a report forwarded to the ' . secretary, Mr. W. Nichol to-day, states: ' 1 A large body of water and gas was - ' cut at the I,oooft. level, which necessi- * 1 tated an increase in the speed of pump- E • ing from 10 revolutions per minute to c 18. Since then the speed has decreased ' slightly, but nevertheless there is still I • a large influx of water. At present all ' the boring tools, diamond drill, etc, are I at the I,oooft. level, and they are unable * i to recover them on account of the great ' i quantity -of gas. Yesterday I was just ' ■ able to cope with the water, but the task ' is now less difficult." ' Since the report was written, the ' . pumping has decreased to 15 revolutions ' ; per minute. The following telegram was sent to the engineer to-day. "Keep on pumping and > arrange repairs later." WAIHI-PAEROA GE.
