A case against Thos. Donovan and Clifford Payne, charged with stealing a case of benzine from the scow Waiapu, was dismissed after a lengthy hearing, his Worship remarking that the circumstances were suspicious, but he would give defendants the benefit of tbe doubt. Decision was reserved in the case of Samuel Beehre, who was proceeded against by the Whangarei County Council for hay- ' ing conducted the carriago of uumilled Umber over the Wh.ng.rei-Maungatapere road, contrary to county by-laws, and with having ' engaged in heavy traffic on the same road ' without having first given security to the < County Council for repair of any special ' damage to the road.
