STEAMER AGROUND
ACCIDENT CAUSED BY FOG. OTTAWA, November 7. The steamer Royal George has grounded in the Ciuif of St. Lawrence in a fop. Nine hundred people are aboard. The situation was at first regarded as serious. A later message states that assistance has been sent to the steamer. The passengers are believed to bo safe. There was no semblance of panic.
PASSENGERS RESCTTEB. STEAMER MAY TOFFXE OVER. (Received 1.55 p.m.) QUEBEC, November 7. The passengers have been rescued from the Royal Cleorge. The vessel is in only six feet of water, and is in danger of toppling over. The crew is still aboard, and tugs aro standing by.
The Royal George is a steamer of 11,146 gross, tons, and was formerly known as the Heliopolis. She was built in 1907 by the Fairfield Company. Limited, at Glasgow, and is owned by the Canadian Northern Steamships. Limited, hor port of registry being Toronto. Mie is fitted with submarine signalling apparatus and wireless telegraphy, and is of the following dimensions: Length 525 ft Sin, breadth 62ft 2in, and depth 27ft.
