THE DRIVERS' DEMANDS.

PREMATURE ANSIETY. AS TO ARBITRATION COURT, (Ty Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. It is stated locally that the refusal of Mr. Justice Sim, to acceda to the demand of the Auckland drivers lor an early hearing of their dispute is likely to have serious consequences. The Minister for Labour is understood to have taken some action in the matter without avail. Any trouble that may occur will have its beginning in Auckland, but may spread. With reference to the above message Mr. George Davies, secretary of the Auckland branch of the Drivers' Federation, explained to a " Star" reporter this morning that there was apparently some misunderstanc—ig. Miy Justice Sim l_d not refused to hear the demands of the Auckland drivers, but had pointed out that a Dominion award conld not be considered if only the Auckland employers were cited. It would be necessary to cite the whole of "the employers throughout New Zealand. Mr. Justice Sim had promised to hold a sitting of the Arbitration Court, for the Drivers" Federation, in Christchurch during or in Wellington during August. The nature of the demands makes it almost impracticable to arrive at a. Dominion award by holding sittings of the Court to consider the demands in the different industrial districts.
