MATERNITY GRANT.
AN AUSTRALIAN PROPOSAL. MELBOURNE, June 12. The caucus of the Federal Labour party ddscussed the programme for the coming session. The proposals include a Maternity Allowance Bill, to be introduced, providing a grant of £5 for every child hereafter born and registered in Australia. Mr. Fisher claims that it will protect many toiling mothers, and assist in preserving child-life. It was decided that the Navigation Bill must be passed during the coming session without fail. The question whether the proposed amendments in the Constitution should) be again submitted to the people at the nest election was not finally decided. (Received 10.45 a.m.)' MELBOURNE, this day. Mr. Fisher stated to-day that though the powers asked for in the alteration of '■ tbe constitution of next election would be the same as at tbe last referendum, the questions submitted to the electors I may be different.
