SHEFFIELD CHOIR
ARRIVAL IN BRISBANE. BRISBANE, June 11. The members of the Sheffield Choir arrived by the steamer Zealandia yesterday, and were welcomed by the Premier and the Mayor. In replying to the addresses of wel- ' come, Dr. Coward, the conductor, said that the choir had not come out to Australia to teach, but with a view of adding their quota to the development of the Imperial spirit. Five thousand people attended an openair concert given by the choir in the Exhibition Grounds yesterday afternoon, and the Exhibition Hall was crowded on the occasion of the concert at nigbt. An enthusiastic reception was given to the choir, which made a splendid success.
FEATURES OP THE SINGING,
(Received 10 a.m.) BRISBANE, this day. The members of the Sheffield Choir include Lady Norah Noel, daughter of the Earl of Gainsborough. The feature of Saturday's concerts was the superbly just intonation, and the remarkable manner in which the pitch was kept. All the items were given unaccompanied, and were characterised by clearness of enunciation and dramatic intensity.
