REMARKABLE DISTURBANCE.

sea RECEDES THREE MIXES. SHIPS LEFT STRANDED. ST. PETERSBURG, December 3. A disaster of peculiar origin has occurred in the Sea of Azov, a large gulf of the Black Sea formed by the Crimean Peninsula, and noted for abundance of fish. The River Don empties into the Sea of Azov, the waters of which are shallow and almost fresh, and it has been described as an inland lake rather than a gulf. A violent gale so disturbed the waters that they receded for a distance of three miles from their usual limits. A number of ships were left stranded, and many fishing boats were wrecked. In some cases the crews were unable to land, and were left without food. The disturbance of the waters resulted in the hind being invaded in places, and a number of houses were washed away.
