EAST COAST RAILWAY.

Waihi borough's protest. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WAIHI, this day. At a meeting of the Waihi BorougCouncil last evening, the following resolution was passed: "This Council leans with regret that no authorisation hat been made for begi-ning work on the East Coast railway from Waihi southward. It would urge on the Government the fairness and justice of meeting the wishes of a large population, eagerly looking forward to the opening up of a tract of fertile country inviting I settlement. When the line was started lat Tauranga, it was confidently expected : thai the next move would be from Wa_fi, and this Council respectfully requests that an amount be placed on the Supplementary Estimates as an earnest of the intention of Cabinet." It was furtfter resolved to .wire the resolution to tfce Premier.
