A man was fined fIOO for street betting in Melbourne yesterday. The United States warships Minnesota, Vermont, Mississippi, and Idaho have arrived at Gravesend. In the Federal House of Representatives the Constitution Alteration Bill was carried through all its stages. Lieutenant G. M. Hyde, named for service in the Australian destroyers, sails on the Orontcs for Melbourne. Two freight trains collided on the Oregon railroad. A fireman aud a brakeman were killed, and several men injured. The export of butter from Victoria for the past four months was over eleven million pounds' weight, nearly double that for the corresponding period of last year. Professor Gilbert Murray, Regius Professor of Greek at Oxford University, has issued a protest against the statute abolishing the compulsory taking of Greek at Oxford, which was promulgated on Tuesday.
