COOK ISLANDS.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) RAROTONGA, November 10. Referring to the allegations published in the "Dominion"' some two or three . weeks back I can assure you there is no cause for alarm. On the contrary, the j statements made are crossly misleading j and unauthorised. There is absolutely no cause for dissatisfaction with the i local administration, and conditions here I have never been so bright and prosperous. During the past season the natives— practically all of whom are growers — have been obtaining phenomenally high prices for their produce. So far as I can learn, the alleged discontent is confined to an individual case. The whooping cough epidemic is not nearly so bad, but there are still quite a j number of cases. The R.M.s. Aorangi passed through | here on the 27th inst.. en route for San j Francisco. Owing to a heavy sea she I was unable to discharge all her cargo for ' this port, quite a lot being overcarried to Tahiti. The Navua takes a fair quantity of bananas and pines to-day—about 7000 cases. A large proportion of this is being shipped to the Southern ports.
