ARRIVAL IN SYDNEY. A NEW ZEALAND WELCOME. SYDNEY, June 16. Lord Islington, the new Governor of New Zealand, was welcomed on board the R.M.s. Macedonia to-day by the New Zealanders , Association, and presented him with an address welcoming him to the "lands imder the Southern Cross," and expressing congratulations on his appointment to the Governorship of the Dominion.

The address added: "Our welcome is but the forerunner of that wider one that is assured your lordship on reaching our native land. We trust that your residence in the Dominion will prove a happy one to yourself and Lady Islington, as well as for the subjects of His Majesty over whom you have been called upon to rule."

Lord Islington, in reply, thanked the ! association for, its congratulations, and , said he appreciated the courtesy that j had been extended to him. Lady Islington and he were looking forward to their sojourn in New Zealand, and anticipated a pleasant residence among the loyal inhabitants of that beautiful part of His Majesty's dominions. ' The Maori footballers and New Zealand footballers gave their war cries. Lord Islington is the guest of the Earl of Dudley (Governor-General of the Commonwealth) till he departs for New Zealand by the Ulimaroa on Saturday. Lord Plunket goes to Brisbane on Saturday, after conferring with Lord Islington.
