THE KNYVETT CASE.

SOUTHERN CAMPAIGN COMMENCE&

iAN LNTERESTTNG PROGRAMME.

The Knyvett Defence Committee has now completed all its arrangements in connection with, the Southern campaign that is to be carried out with a view to creating a better understanding of the K-nyvett case, and bringing before the public the full facts associated therewith. On Sunday next Messrs. J. S. Dickson and R. A. Armstrong leave Auckland to make, all preliminary arrangements, and Messrs. Gerald Peacocke and A. J. Black depart a. few days later to speak at Che five centres at which the Defence Committee has decided to carry on the campaign. The first meeting will be held at Wanganui on Monday, June 27th. The Opera House has been secured for the occasion, and the- Mayor (Mr. Mackay) has promised to preside. Mr. Hogan, menrber for t'he district, had arranged to give a presessional address the same evening, but has now decided to avoid clashing by taking another evening for his speech. On Tuesday evening, June 28, a meeting will be held in the Town Hall in Palmerston North. Mr. Dickson precedes the party to the South Island, to make arrangements for the meetings to be held at Christchurch and Dunedin. The Victoria Hall has been engaged at Ohristchurch for the evening of Thursday, June 30, and His Majesty'3 Theatre, Dunedin, has been secured for July Ist. After fulfilling these engagements, the party returns to Wellington, where a mass meeting is to be h&d at the Town Hall on i;he evening of Monday, July 4th. At this meeting the speakers will have the assistance of nearly all the members of Parliament representing the Auckland district, as Parliament will then be in session. Promises of assisttance at this meeting have also been obtained from several Southern members, including Mr. T. E. Taylor and Mr. D. McLaren. The Defence Committee ha= been busily engaged for some time past in making preliminary arrangements, and from each town to be visited Mr. J. S. Dickson has received letters assuring him of the interest likely to be taken in the campaign. At Christchurch it is likely that the opportunity will be taken by local speakere supporting the Knyvett case to at the same time ventilate a local grievance in regard to the treatment meted out by the Defence Department to the Linwood Rifles, while at Dunedin similar action will probably be taken in regard to the case in which the North Dunedin Rifles are involved.
