HARBOUR BOARD.
« «___.. The ordinary meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board took place this afternoon, those present being the Hon. E. Mitchelson (chairman), Messrs "W. J. Napier, A. Keyes, H. D. Heatfier, J. J. Craig, A. J. Entrican, J. H. Gurison, W. Hutchison, J. B. Macfarlane, J. K. Kneen, and H. M. Smeeton. A Complaint.—Messrs John Burns and Co. wrote stating that they understood: there were certain tarpaulins and hatch . covers required for the new tug Awhina. On their Inquiry for an opportunity to be given them to quote for the Board's- requirei ments in this connection they were informed that they would not be asked for a price. ' They asked for an explanation, as they considered that the order should be placed with them, as they held the Board's contract for ' ship ohandlery. The engineer reported that • nothing was known of the statement ln the letter. - The chairman said the harbourmaster had stated that he was not aware that Burns and Co. ■ made tarpaulins or winch covers, and had given the contract to another firm. In future, however, Inquiries would be made. The letter was referred to the Board in committee.
