■ N.S-D.C.C. The above club held a very opening day on Saturday on the Devonport Domain. The weather was glorious, and the ground and wicket In very good order. The attendance was very good, and the large number of lady supporters present ; was very pleasing. Two practice, matches were played, and the form shown augurs well for the club's snccess during the coming season. A committee of ladies kindly • provided afternoon tea, and helped to make the afternoon a thoroughly enjoyable one. A concert will be held to-morrow night in aid of the pavilion fund. The various grade competitions of the clnbs under the Canterbury Cricket Association were commenced to-day, when the grounds were In good order, though a bitterly cold easterly made it rather unpleasant for the players. The scores were: Sydenham 314 (J. Bruges 111, J. Gray 80, C. Hayes 51) v. West Christchurch 9 for one wicket. East Christchurch 152 v. Rtccarton 81 for three wickets. In their match Llnwood scored 363 (R. Ridley 137 not out, F. Wilding 50).
