ENGINE AND TRUCKS DAMAGED.

GOBE, this day. The Clinton- Invercargiil train was standing at the platform at Gore this morning, when the Waimea train, which I was late, was run on the side-line owing to the points which front the station being open.

The engine of the Waimea ran Into the stationary train, four trucks of the Clinton train being smashed and the engine damaged. The side of one truck was driven into the smoke-box of the engine. Two trucks of the Waimea train and tender were derailed. The driver, Carter, and the fireman, G. W. Johnson, had narrow escapes' but were not injured. Tb» r.rp.in servir.ps_ were not delayed greaily, the wreckage being cleared away early in the day.

A SHUNTER KILLED.

. INVERCARGILL, this day. Leo Patrick Kenny, a shunter recently transferred'from Auckland, fell between two moving trucks, sustaining shocking injuries to both legs and one arm, which had to be. amputated. His skull -was also fractured, and he died this morning without regaining consciousness. He leaves a widow but no family.
