AQUATICS.

■ROYAL YACHT SQUADRON. The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron sailed races on Saturday afternoon last for cups presented by Mr C. E. Horton. There were two classes. In Class A only two boats started, Thelma (scratch), end Rainbow (2m). Rainbow was 16m late, and never approached her rival, which finished unopposed at 5h 59m, the Rainbow retiring after the first round. The course was about 21 knots. The second race, which was over a course of 14i knots, brought out three boats, and the result is as follows:—Kotirl 1, Walrere 2, Waione 3, the order in which the boats finished. NORTH SH.ORE; YACHT CLUB. The North Shore Yacht Club held a series of cruising races to Howick. on Saturday afternoon last. Following are the particnClass I.—Thistle (4}m), 4h Bm, 1; May. MAKTJKAU YACHT CDTJB. ■The above club sailed their eighth race, of the season on Saturday afternoon last, competing for "the handicap cup. "Mahinga won comfortably with* Mana second, and Anahera third; Heather, Manola, Wairere, and Edith following in that order. ■ AUCKLAND - ROWING CLUB. The Auckland Rowing Club held double sculling races on Saturday afternoon, for trophies 'presented by Mr H. Schmidt The inclement weather rather spoilt the pleasure of the afternoon, but the water was particularly smooth. The winners proved to be H. S. Hellaby and C Walker, who beat T. Davis and R. Wilson by a length In the final, after a splendid rac& The results were as follows:—Hellaby and Walker beatGentles and Lambert, Davis and Wilson beat Bloomfield and Allom; Lovett and' Pol ter beat Griffin and Mldgley. Second round Heflaby and Walker beat Murray and Hapeta (bye), Davis and Wllsbn beat Potter and Lovett, leaving Hellaby and Davis to fight out the finish, which resulted, as above stated, in a win for the former. ' THE* LAUNCH PETREL. The launch Petrel, which has been cruising in the Bay of Plenty, arrived at Walwera last olKht after a. very rough passage across from 'the .Great Barrier. She Is coming on to Auckland to-day.
