AUTOMOBILISM.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —Under the heading "A Great Industry," in Saturday's '•' Star" Supplement, advice is given to "seriously experiment with alcohol motors," etc. Other things being equal, the cheapest form of motive power will be the one to come into use, and alcohol will most assuredly not be (eventually) the one. Bather let inventors look to the higher explosives, such as nitro-glycerine, etc. These will. I feel certain, be the motive powers of the future. The quantity for use will be so small that the cost of travelling will be practically nil—say one shilling per 100 miles, plus wear and tear.—l am, etc., FRED. A. G. COTTERELL.
