UPPER WAIWERA.

At a meeting of the Liberal and Labour 'Federation, held at Waiwera,..Mr Henry Hellyer in the chair, resolutions were passed congratulating the Right Hon. R. J. Seddon and the' Government on the great victory they had gained over the Opposition in the late elections, and sincerely hoping .tnat Mv Seddon may long continue Prime Minister. The chairman suggested that cjie Leajjfiie should petition the Government to abolish the lavr which compelled a poor farmer to insure every workman he employed,- which he regarded as a great drawback to farmers generally. Mr Seddon himself had said "that he did not intend the -nsurance to come on the farmers. The chairman also said that "the Seddon Road" was progressing favourably, and they must again taank Mr Seddon and the Government for what they had already done for the road, and fo: their late kind grant of £50, which, is at present being expended, ■under the superintendence of Mr A. B. Wright, district road engineer, in metalling tjie worst part of the road. Good stone- for. metamng was to be got in nearly every section along Seddon road. The mail coach should run through the heart of the settlements instead of through barren hills on the coast, and it would act also as a feeder for the railway. A vote of thanks was carried to Mrs C. A. Anderson, treasurer, for .her faithful and persevering efforts on behalf of the Liberal Federation and Seddon road, also to Mr Hellyer for having occupied the I chair. The meeting closed with hearty cheers for the Seddon Government and for Mr and Mrs Seddon, wishing them eTery prosperity.—(A Correspondent.)
