CORONERS' INQUESTS.

(To the Editor.■>

Sir.—ln connection with the proceedings at the coroner's inquest on the fatal accident in Freeman's Bay, I desire to point out that in the Coal Mines Act, on juries for accidents in coal mines, one half the jury must be miners. That is surely a sensible provision. Then why not make such a provision applicable in all other classes of work. Say a painter, carpenter, or bricklayer, etc., gets killed at his work. The jury must then have one-half of the same trade upon it, and there would be no difficulty in providing the men. as I am sure if the police notified the trade seeretaiy he would render every assisancc. If it v«'.r, done the real cause of accidents would be oftener brought to light, and there is not the slightest doubt fewer verdicts would be returned of "Accidental death, with no blame attachable to anyone."—l am, etc., NAVVY TOM.
