JAPS ADVANCING ON MUKDEN. PUNISHING THE CHUNCHUSES. LONDON, August 20. Advices from Id_o-yang say the objective of tbe Japanese army in Manchuria is Mukden. Large bodies of Japanese troops are now reported to be along the Chinese railway towards Sinminting, to the west of Mukden. Numerous reports to hand say that -while the Chunchuses were in the field against the Russians the latter devastated their villages and killed many of their people as retribution. RUSSIANS IN RETREAT. (Received 9.3 a.m.) LONDON, August 21. The Japanese occupied An-shang-tu on the 19th inst., the Russians retreating towards Mukden.
