MASSACRE IN THE ISLANDS.
SIX PERSONS KILLED. RECRUITER MURDERED AND MUTILATED. BOY SAVED BY SWIMMING. (By Cable. —Press Association.—Copyright.) NOUMEA, August 9. News from the New Hebrides states that Dick Pentecost, a well-known recruiter, with four of hi 3 crew, of the cutter Petrel, and two native women recruits, have been murdered by natives on Aurora, or Maewo Island, in the New Hebrides. The vessel was anchored close to shore, Pentecost and the two women were aboard, and they were surprised by the natives, and all of them shot. Pentecost's body was cut up and thrown into the sea. Four of the crew were shot ashore. The vessel was then sacked and cast adrift, and was found by the schooner Julia, and towed to Aurora Island. One member of the crew, a boy, was saved by swimming out to sea, and afterwards regaining the cutter.
