NORTH TRUNK RAILWAY.
STATEMENT BY THE MINISTER.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
WELLINGTON, this day.
Mr. George Fowlds had an interview with the Hon. Hall-Jones re the Main Trunk railway line. The Minister assured him that the present expenditure is at the rate of at least *■£ 250,000 per annum, though the expenditure for the year will not reach that amount, as it was considerably loss than that during the first months of the year before Parliament authorised the loan. He expects now to be able to keep it going at the present rate until the line is completed.
Additional workmen arc being put on all unfinished railway lines. The number has been considerably increased on both ends of the North Island Main Trunk line.
