NAUTICAL ENQUIRY.
CAPTAIN'S CERTIFICATE SUS PENDED.

WELLINGTON, Friday.
A Magisterial inquiry was commenced to-day concerning the grounding of the new Patea trader Aotea on Eagle Reef, off the coast of Queensland, on November 25, while on the voyage from London to Wellington. The vessel was damaged to the extent'of ££G0 by impact with the rocks. The mishap occurred at about dusk, and there were no breakers to indicate the presence of the reef. Tlie vessel came off at high tide.
WELLING TON, Saturday.
The inquiry was concluded to-day. The Court held that the navigation of the vessel had been handed over to the chief officer, and this was not desirable. Captain Bunny's; certificate wa# suspended for three months, the chief officer (Mr ii. Disney) wa.s censured for not ascertaining the position more accurately, and the second officer's certificate was returned.
