THE 'FRISCO MAIL.

DEPARTURE OF THE VENTURA

The B.M.s. Ventura arrived from Sydney this morning, and left for San Francisco, via Pagopago, Panning Island and Honolulu at 2 o'clock this afternoon. The steamer left Sydney on Monday afternoon last, end had fine weather across the Tasman Sea, the passage being accomplished in the quick time of five days 9£ hours. When leaving Sydney the vessel had 69 saloon, 42 second saloon and 27 steerage passengers aboard, of whom 1 50 saloon, 16 second cabin and 13 steerage landed at this port. Axnong those landing here were a number of round-the-world tourists, who are. visiting New Zealand on account of its thermal and. scenic attractions, there Were also a number of Australians who intend "doing" the colony. Mr Justice Chubb, of New South Wales, and Colonel Percy Owen were among those landing here. Included in the list of thone in transit are Dr Solf, Governor of Samoa; Baron and Baroness Vignan, who are proceeding to Samoa, and the Hon C. J. Ham, of Melbourne, who, with Mrs and Miss Ham, is proceeding on a short trip to San Francisco. The Ventura has the usual cargo of wool, hides, tin, copper and other products from Australia, while lines of flax, hides, timber and produce were shipped here. The passenger list was considerably augmented here, and by the time the Samoan and Honolulu travellers have been picked up she will probably be a full ship. She is due at Sampa in January T, Fanning Island January 11, Honolulu January 13, and San Francisco on January 19. The mails and. passengers desirous of proceeding overland and thence will leave San Francisco the esme day, and will reach. New , York on January 24, when they will transfer to one of the Atlantic greyhounds, reaching England on January 30, or In All about 28 days from tins port.
