(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent,

PAEPwOA, Saturday

The Catholic social, held in the Criterion Theatre last evening, was a great success, the ha.ll being crowded, and the floor and music first class. During the evening- Bishop Leriihari, Monsignor O'Reilly, Dean Hackett, and Father Kehoe were present. The euchre party was very enjoyable, the ladies' prize being won by Miss Medhurst, and the gentlemen's prize by Mr J. Byrne.

A ping pong , match between the Te Aroha and Paeroa Clubs is about to take place shortly.

A presentation of a gold chain .and locket to ,Mr Fred Griffiths, of the firm of J. Hag-lie Smith and Co., took pla.ee on Wednesday evening-, the presentation being made <by Mr J. Torrens, on behalf of some of Mr Griffiths' friends. Mr Griffiths' departure from Paeraa, to take charge of the firm'? branch at Waihi, is greatly regretted here, where he Was so deservedly popular.
