PAEROA FOOTBALL

PAEROA, Saturday,
Tne first match of the season under the auspices of the Paeroa Union took place to-day, when West and East met. Tlie teams were very evenly matched, and a hard-fought game resulted in a draw, each side scoring a try. Eaton scored for West and Rvburn for East. Flynn was elected captain of the West for the season, and H. Sorensen of East. Next Saturday West and Komata meet, when a good game is expected, as the Komata t. am ls a fairly strong one. The new system of having three district local clubs has started well, it being a treat to s «e all the players in proper un form, and tbe game started to time, whilst the interest among the spectators has greatly '"^^atch was also played this afternoon between two native teams representing Paeroa and Kerepehi, and an eniovable and good-natured game resulted satisfactorily for all parties in a draw, ne her side scoring nor being in any danger of scoring. The Paeroa team entertained the visitors at a dinner this evening- Mr W. Moore refereed in both matches.
