The football season was opened on Saturday afternoon at the Parawal Racecourse, in fine weather. The ground was in first-class order. In the senior match, Native Rose v. Rovers, no score was recorded during the first spell. In the second spell McLean kicked a goal for Rovers from a. free-kick awarded for offSide play. Within a few minutes of time Powdrell marked in Rover's territory, and Dufty kicke<s~a goal, putting NatiV^ Rose ahead by one point. No further score was recorded. Native Rose winning by 4 points to 3.
In the first Junior match True Blues de feated Rovers 11. by eight points to three. Tries were obtained for the winning team by Smith and Rickit, and the latter converted one. Newland scored a try for the losing team. The second junior match, Native Rose v Tararu, resulted In a win for the former by nine points to nil. Tries were obtained by Clark and Graham (2).\
