YVANGANUI, Friday
Miss Fraser withdrew her resigna-tion-as principal of the Girls' College. conditionally on assistance being given. The Board to-day appointed Miss Gordon, of the Napier Girls' School, to the staff.
PALMERSTON NORTH, Friday.
A man named Cooksley, a borough contractor, while carting pipes for water extension works, had both legs broken through two pipes rolling on him.
DUNEDIN, this day.
The police this morning raided the premises of two well known bookmakers, but it is understood they got no incriminating evidence.
Owing to the bungle over the holiday the spectacle is presented of wholesale houses, factories, banks, Government institutions all being closed, while in George-street and elsewhere retailers are carrying- on business as usual.
