THE HOLIDAY.

WATER EXCURSIONS

To-day being the King's Birthday the various shipping companies announced a number of water excursions to the various pleasure resorts in and near the harbour. Large numbers of holiday-makers began to assemble at the wharf shortly before 9 o'clock this morning, and all the excursions were very well patronised. Almost the whole of the Northern Company's fleet of steamers was engaged in conveying pleasure-seekers. The p.s. Wakatere, which left for Cowes' Bay, Waiheke, always a favourite spot, was simply packed, and the Clansman had a large complement of excursionists for Waiwera and Mahurangi Heads. The Helping Hand Mission held their picnic at Man-o'-War Bay, Waiheke, whither they were conveyed in the s.s. Kotiti. The p.s. Eagle was chartered by the Pittstreet Wesleyan Sunday-school for their annual picnic, which was held at Home Bay, Motutapu. The steamers Rose Casey and Awarua were also engaged in running to Motutapu.

The p.s. Osprey conveyed large numbers to Lake Takapuna, where the Central Mission held a picnic. The Admiral was also well filled on her several trips to Pine Island, and the Durham carried a number down to the fishing grounds. . Steamers were also engaged in carrying holidaymakers to Rangitoto and St. Heliers Bay. The other steamers of the fleet plying between the North Shore anct Auckland took large crowds over to Birkenhead, Northcote,' Devonport and Stanley Bay.
