OPENING OF THE YACHTING SEASON.

This morning the yachting season was formerly opened by a display in the harbour. The wind was blowing a fresh breeze from the south-west and about twenty yachts assembled off the Queen-street wharf to participate in the manoeuvres. The mustei was rather disappointing, but the day decided unon for the opening was unhappily chosen, because the majority of local yachtsmen, talcing advantage of two consecutive days, left last evening in large numbers preferring to make a two days' cruise than wait. and get away this afternoon, Tho yachts dropped anchor off the Queenstreet wharf about half-past nine in three division?, representing the. Auckland Yacht Squadron, Xortl Shore Yacht Club and the Parnell and Ponsonby Sailing Chilis. The conit inodorc (Mr C, 1!. Munlock) was on board the flagship, and the rear-ad-miral of tlit' North Shore was also in attendance, Captain Parker beingunavoidably absent. At a signal from the commodore's yacht the yachts weighed anchor and went through the various evolutions of the manoeuvres. They first tacked up the harbour and forming1 a line sailed down the harbour past the Queen-st. wharf and as far as Fort Resolution, where they arranged themselves in single file and tacked across to Stokes' Point. Thence they ran

across the harbour to tl\e Queen-st. wharf, where the dismiss signal ivas given from the commodore's yacht, and the boats then dispersed.
