WAITEMATA COUNCIL.

After we went to press yesterday i the following business was transacted at a meeting of the Waitejnata County Council: Messrs. Payntjon & Frost asked for the reconstruction of Walsh's bridge, Rangitopi*ne, stating that the Pukeatua Eoad Btoard would give as much as they could towards the work. The engineer was instructed to report upon the beat kind of work to be done, and the estimated cost.

The Chairman stated that a sum of £15 had been given towards the cost of Dilworth's new road, Waltakerei, by land-owners on adjacent properties, and that the balance of £15 would be forthcoming from other persons interested. The tender of Mr. Thomas Shelley was accepted for clearing and fencing the ro^d. The plans and specifications of the new Whau bridge were presented by the engineer, who estimated the cost of erection at £500. A copy of the report is to be sent to the local bodies concerned, and they are to be- asked to contribute a share of the cost.

In regard to a letter received from Mr. H. Atkinson, stating a company was about to be formed to supply Northcote and Birkenhead with gas. it was decided that Messrs. Bruce and Wilson meet the Birkenhead Borough Council, and report at next meeting- under what terms the company would be allowed to tear up the roads.

Mairetahi: Receipts, £173 6/10; expenditure, £317 18/1. Waitakerei: Receipts, £649 3/6; expenditure, £372 4/4. Waikumete: Receipts, £233 10/1; expenditure, £285 6/5.

In reference to a request made by Captain Smith for the Glen Var Wine Company and others, that a wharf be erected at Deep Creek, Takapuna, it was decided to refuse the request, as all funds available were needed for more urgent works.
