HUNTING.

The Pakuranga Hounds met at Sylvia Park on Saturday, and there was a record turn out for the season, niemImra and ladies, farmers and farmers' sons, visitors and townsfolk being in full force. A more perfect hunting day could not have been desired, and the country could not have been bettered; indeed, "All nature seemed smiling and gay," Sylvia Park and the adjoining properties being beautifully green, and the flowers, shrubs and hedgerows, as yet untouched by the frost which •was so soon to follow, looking at their best. And poor puss, the first one put up, took such a nice line of country, and afforded her pursuers, as well as those who viewed from the hill-top and from adjacent roads, such fine sport th-ftt she deserved to live. It was not to be, however, for after running nlong the face of the hill opposite Mr Ralph's, homestead and overlooking also the stud stables of Messrs L. D. and N. A. Nathan, she took a semicircular course towards Panmure, and finally, in trying to double back from a swamp near the Tamaki River, got chopped. Some formidable post and rail fences and stone walls and a line of plain wire were taken in this run. After a time the hounds were taken to near the site of the old Sylvia Park stables, and a second hare took them across the road into Nathan's, through the plantation, and to Morrison's, and turning, ran along the Tamaki side of the hill, heading for Wallace's Mountain; crossing the road leading into Otahuhu she turned and took a course behind Mr Ralph's house, and ' from thence through the Park across the Panmure Road to Messrs Nathan's stables, where a fresh hare engaged some of the hounds, who were evidently in excellent condition. An adjournment was made to the homestead, where Mrs Ralph and daughters and Mr Ralph entertained members and visitors alike most hospitably. Before dispersing three hearty cheers were given for Mr and Mrs Ralph, and one for the Huntsman (Mr Selby).
