COMMEMORATIVE MEDALS.

The. Education Department has began the distribution of copper medals to the Slate school children in the colony to commemorate the Royal visit. The medal is a little larger than a shilling. On the front, is a representation of the Royal yacht wdth the inscription:— "H.M.s. Ophir, in which their Royal Highnesses came to New Zealand, June 1001." On the back are the words: —

'■Child, en's souvenir of the -visit of the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall to New Zealand." One hundred and fifty thousand medals have been struck.
