COROMANDEL SCHOOL OF MINES.

The annual meeting of the Coroman- j del School of Mines was held in the Lecture Hall last evening. There was a, large attendance of members and students, Mr A. T. Kenrick, president, occupyingl the chair. The statement of accounts in connection with the School showed n credit balance of £9 2/3, and that of the battery showed debit balance of ' £73 If. The committee's report, showing the School to be in a satisfactory state, and that the students have made good progress, was read. On the motion of the chairman the accounts and reports were adopted. The late director, Mr P. J., McLeod, also submitted a report on the work of the School for the past year, in which he mentioned that the thanks of the Council and students were due to Mr H. P. Hornibrooke, who had presented the School with a collection of quartz specimens from Abyssinia, from where he had just returned. The chairman explained the debiton the battery account had been caused by providing necessary adjuncts to the plant, for which it was expected a grant would be made by the Government. It was also hoped that during the year a small cyanide plant would be added, so as to make the battery a complete and up-to-date testing plant. The certificates won by the students at the examination in December last were presented to the winners. The election of officers and council for insuing year re-sulted in the following gentlenj^n being returned:—President, Mr A. T. Kenrick; vice-presi-dents, Captain Francis Hodge and Mr T. W. Rhodes; secretary and treasurer, Mr Win. Thomas; council, Messrs A. N. Jamieson, J. B. Rockliff, Jobjn Reilly, Wm. Jones, G. S. Clarke, Geo. F. Me'lI lars, and H. Battens. *
