(Before His Honor the Chief Justice.)
Two Years' Hard Labour. —George William Smith, a young man, was brought up for sentence, having'been convicted on Saturday on a charge of indecent assault on a, young girl at Devonport.—His Honor said that he should take into consideration the favourable report of the probation officer, who reported that nothing had been previously known against the prisoner in regard to this class of offence, although he had been admitted to probation on another charge. He would also take into consideration the prisoner's youth, and would not pass so severe a sentence aa he otherwise might. The sentence 'of the Covirt was that prisoner be imprisoned nt Auckland and kept to hard labour for a period of two years.
