THE UNION CO. AND SYDNEY SERVICE.

(To the Kditorj Sir,—The manner in which the Union Co.

are treating Auckland suruly amounts to a soandal. True, the Company have placed two Kmart steamers on the Auck-land-Sydney line, viz.. the Mararoa and the Walkare, but what is the advantage if, as happened to-day, the Sydney mall is n> ! in the hands of business people until the outgoing mail has closed? This is e.iuwd by the Mararoa leaving Sydney aj day late. Seeing there is only one direct mail to Sydney a week, surely the timetable can be so arranged that a few hours are given merchants and others to reply to their letters the same rirty as received, and! not have to wait a whole week before do-; ing so. The departure of the Waikare could surely have been postponed a couple of hours, seeing the Mararoa did not ar-1 rive till 3' o'clock —1 am, etc ___ « * ,- , PR° B0>"0 PUBLICOMonday, 25th, I ebruary.
