POLICE COURT.
j THIS DAY.
(Before Mr T. Hutchison, S.M.) Drunkenness.—Two first offenders were convicted and discharged with a caution. Thomas Gourlay and Norah Williams were each lined 10/ or 4S hours in default. Witnesses Differ.—Fanny Primrose was charged with being found drunk in Queenstreet.- The arresting constable deposed that he followed accused down Queenstreet to Shortland-street corner, where she collapsed. She wanted the whole pavement to herself, and in his opinion she was undoubtedly drunk. Sergeant ; Walker deposed that accused was "beastly drunk." Accused denied being drunk and paid she was ill at the time. In proof of this she called the matron at the Police Station, who deposed that accused was ! perfectly sober when brought in by the i constable. His Worship dismissed the j case. i Remanded: Amelia Whiteman. charced
with abandoning her child at Freeman's Bay on February 14th, was remanded for a week on the application of Detective Herbert. j
Unattended Cart.—Michael Heads was fined 20/ and costs for leaving a cart unattended in Queen-street.
Threatening Behaviour.—David Morrison was ordered to enter into a recognisance of £25 to keep the peace towards Thomas McNab for six months.
Assault.—William Thomas Dixon was charged that on February 14th he did assault one John Herrlngton so as to caiiKo him actual bodily harm. Detective Herbert prosecuted and Mr Lundon appeared for the defence. Heiringrton deposed that accused struct* him in the bar of the- United Service Ho^el, breaking his noKe. —The case is proceeding.
Driving Without Lights.—Thorne Bueklantl was fined 5/ and costs for driving after sunset without lights.
