ONEHUNGA.
A special meeting of the Onehunga Borough Council was held in the Council* Chambers last night. There were present^' the Mayor (Dr. W. R. Close Erson) and Councillors Colledge, Edwards, Brown, Bradley, Yates, Shaldrick, AtcLeod, Hill, and Rowe. ™
His Worship announced to the Council■ that this special meeting had been called I for a threefold purpose, v_z., Ist, to declare-1 what are noxious weeds; 2nd, to "pass 11 sum of £138 interest on waterworks de-*. bentures, payable Ist March, 1901; and 3rd, ; ; : _y to receive the report of the special con.-)r mittee appointed to confer and afrfttimH with the Manukau Water Supply Board,;; Noxious Weeds.—The Mayor moved fj-fj_| a special order be made which shall ran confirmed at a subsequent meeting, tl_»l:' order to declare under authority of section'y 4, schedule 2, of the Noxious Weeds Ach' 1900, all the plants mentioned in the said I second schedule.—Cr. Hiil seconded the re- y solution, which was agreed to. Payment of Interest.—The'Mayor moved that a sum of £138 be passed for .pay'-'. ment to the waterworks debenture hol_e_s,";; —Cr. Bradley intimated to the. Councilthat he had received from a g-lHl§__fflH in Auckland an offer of £5000 at 4_ pe**yy~ cent, per annum.—Cr. Rowe pointed oilty that the solicitors for the present deMh-T. ture holders had offered to renew the l<J_a 1 at 4 per cent., pending a reply from thill*, ; . clients in England. He thought the terMi,l shoi_Vt be accepted.—Crs. Bradley, Mb*1Leod and Shaldrick spoke on the subject, :A when the Mayor's motion was carried, viz., that the Council accept Messrs Bud* die and Button's offer to reduce the rate | of interest on the waterworks loan to 4.1 per cent, until they can communicate withy their clients in England. Water Supply: The Mayor, said a sulh? committee of the Council had been appoint-; ed to interview the Manukau Water Supply Board with a view to a settlement of th-, litigation between the two bodies and to.> report to the Council. He was glad to Wjm able to say that after a representative coin-;, mittee of the Council had met the repre- 1 sentatlves of the Board, a definite «__-**-,; standing had been arrived at, which; lII* the form of a suggestion, would now. 'MA placed before the Council. The suggestions: were the following, concerning Which it-. was not proposed to come to any absolute,;determination that night:—l. The Manuk-ti,; Water Supply Board to contribute towards s the cost of draining a certain area around the springs, to be mutually agreed upon.'; for the purpose, of maintaining the purity of the springs. 2. The contributions tt|'.-.W...., hot less than £50 a year, and to Increw in proportion to the water pumped at Uift - rate of £40 per 10 millions, to a maximttij*. . of £250 a year. 3. The mohey to lie speh. as required on a scheme prepared by th* engheer of the Manukau Water SupplyBoard, to be approved of by a Drainage Boaid composed of the member of the district as chairman, three members of the Manukau Water Supply Board, and tfi-WL members of the Oneliunga Borough CjfflMft| and all expenditure to be subject* to the Board's consent. 4. The Unehung- Borough y Council to continue the drainage from the area so agreed upon to the boundary of ;tue borough, when called upon, in sums of not less than £150 a year. 5.
