inVf t^ giV6n t0 Ml" WO Sh<*ff hv^ P ™ Hallt Huntly' was attended by the Huntly Rifles and the general public of Huntly, upon whose behalf CapIT<?' S Halph presented Corpora] feherff with a suitably inscribed case of silver-mounted pipes. The recipient acknowledged the gift in terms Of gratitude to the Huntly people. Capt. Ralph, Lieut Shearer, Chaplain Ward, Sergt Sheran and Mr Wight, mine manager, spoke upon the subject of Mr Sherff's departure. Mr Wight, in a few well chosen words, wished Mr Sherff Godspeed and a safe return. Mr Henessy contributed a step-dance, which was well performed, Bugler Brooks, Private Rayner, Mr G. Dodd, Private Thomas, Corporal Hall, Capt. Ralph, Mr Waugh contributed songs, Sergts. Sheran and Eadkins gave recitations, Private Skellern and Radcliffe presided at the piano. Capt. Ralph proved himself a genial chairman, and a most pleasant evening was spent winding up with all present singing "Auld Lang Syne" and the National Anthem. Mr Sherff leaves with the; Sixth Contingent for South Africa.
