POLICE COURT.
YESTERDAY.
(Before Mr. 11. Wilding and Captain
Worsp, J's.P.)
Assault.-—Two charges of assault, laid privately, occupied the court yesterday afternoon. Joseph It. Allport pleaded not guilty to a charge of having assaulted Maxwell Campbell Corbett at Hobson Bay on January 3rd. Mr. Tyldeu appeared for Corbett, and Mr. Mahouy for Allport. The evidence went to show that Allport's two boys were paddling about in a punt in Hobson Bay. Corbett and another boy, knowing that the punt did not belong to them, put them out of it. Allport afterwards met Corbett on the beach and assaulted him. The defence was that there had been a prior assault on defendant's boj-s by Corbett, and that defendant had chastised Corbett because of this, and because of Corbett's insolent answer. Defendant was fined £1 and costs. On a coxmter charge of having assaulted a son of Joseph Allport Corbett was fined 10/ and costs. \
