WAITEMA TA COUNCIL.

The ordinary meeting of the Waitemuta County Council was held to-day at the Council's office. There were

present: Messrs O'Neill (chairman),: .Bruce, Sinclair. Wilson, Phillips, Coeh-, rane and Hatfield. j

Takapuna.—Mr K. Harrow, of Lake Takicpunu, requested the Council for permission to run a tunnel under the county roads near the Lake, in connection with a certain scheme of his. His proposal was to tap the Luke waters at his property, and convey a strong stream of water by means of; a tunnel io a point on Mr W. .1. Xa- i pier's property in Shoal Hay. the on- j ject -being1 to dVive n turbine, which' should supply power for a dynamo in order to supply electric light, for; Devonport and other localities on the North shore of the harbour.—The Council deferred consideration of the matter till next meeting1, members being of opinion that Mr Harrow should apply to the Commissioner of ■ Crown Lands for permission to deal in such a way with the Lake waters.

A Complaint.—Constable Williams, ! of Devonport, wrote re settlers complaining of a. dead horse lying on the beach near Castor Oil Bay, beyond the Lake. —The Council decided to send two men to remove and bury the horse.

Wliau Portage Road. — .1. Bethell j wrote complaining of the very bad state of this road, and whicl* was impassable in wet weather.—Mr Cochrane was deputed to inquire and re-j port to next meeting.

Slaughter-house Inspection.—On the motion of Mr Sinclair it was resolved: ''That in the opinion of this Council Uie supervision of all slaughter-houses in the vicinity of boroughs should be placed under the supervision of the local municipal authorities, and that

all other slaughter-houses and abattoirs should be placed under the supervision of the Stock Department of the.

Tenders.-- The following tenders were accepted: Constructing' bridge over Davidson's Creek, Waikumete, J. Simeoek, i'7s 17/ U. Constructing" brick culvert on the Waikuniete-West Coast Road, Spearpoint and Co., £50 10/. Supply and Delivery of Scoria, at Tlt-irangi and Little Muddy Creek: C. T. Pooloy, 5/ per yard; 50 yards metal. L. J. Armstrong. Repairing Hawkes'. Brklg'O, Wainui: .7. S. King, £21.

Railway Crossing's.—The Chairman and Engineer were authorised to wait on tjhe 'Railway authorities and again call attention to the dangerous railway crossing's in the neighbourhood of Waikumote. It. was stated that accidents had oecurreu at two of these road crossings.
